In my opinion the benefits of rosehip oil are pretty impressive and something that a lot of women long for.
Rosehip oil comes from the seeds of a wild rose (Rosa Moschata or Rosa Rubiginosa) bush in the Southern Andes or from Rosa Canina which grows in various locations such as South Africa and Europe.
It is reddish brown in colour and has a very earthy scent. Rosehip oil is very gentle and so can be used anywhere including the delicate eye and lip area.

Benefits of Rosehip oil.
Rosehip oil is an all round skin healer, moisturiser and soother.
“It has really strong regenerative properties which make it the ultimate multi tasker” – Sarah Brown, Founder, Pai Skincare.
Benefits of using Rosehip Oil are:
- Even out skin tone
- Repairs skin
- Improves the appearance of stretch marks, sun damage, pigmentation and fine lines.
- Feeds the skin with essential nutrients
- Improves the appearance of scars including acne and burn scars.
How does it work?
Rosehip oil is packed full of beautiful goodness including:
- Fatty Acids – Omegas 3,6,7 and 9 – the building blocks for healthy skin.
- A Natural Source of Vitamin E – an anti-inflammatory antioxidant that not only calms and hydrates skin but also protects skin cells from sun damage.
- Natural Source of Lycopene – another really powerful antioxidant that protects your skin from premature ageing.
- Contains Beta – Carotene – Helps prevent free radical damage, again protecting your skin from premature ageing.
As you know, my little men and I are all eczema sufferers. My eldest never had any until recently where it flared up on his little bottom and his elbows. The top photo on the right shows his eczema untreated, i then rubbed a small amount on at bedtime and the next day you could definitely see a difference. It had “calmed down” a lot and lost some of the redness from the day before. After just a couple of days the eczema was hardly even visible.
I have also used it on my youngest little man – he gets really dry patches of skin all over so I just rub a little rosehip oil on after their bath and his skin just soaks it up!
As Rosehip oil is so gentle you can pretty much use it as you like. I use it 3-4 times a week in the evening after cleansing as I too suffer from really dry skin but you could use it a little less or more to suit your skin as it is so beneficial for all skin types.
What to look out for when buying Rosehip Oil.
When buying Rosehip Oil you want to make sure of a couple of things:
- It should be a reddish-brown colour. This shows it has not been through any bleaching processes.
- It should also be virgin/ cold pressed. This means it hasn’t been through any altering process that could involve heat or chemicals.
- The smell should be very earthy. (Some people say it has a slight fishy scent but I have never particularly thought this!)
- Check it has an organic certification.
I use the Pai Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil as Pai have publicly published that this is the most concentrated Rosehip Oil on the market. This is available to buy here.
You can hear more about this oil in the short video of Pai founder Sarah Brown.
