“Sugar free Halloween treats” is a phrase most might think does not make sense!
Halloween is nearly here and that often means all the kids are thinking about is what costume will make them look the scariest and how can they get their hands on as many lollies as possible!
It also means that a lot of parents are struggling with how to find the balance between letting the kids enjoy the Halloween tradition while trying to limit the amount of sugar that enters their little bodies.

My eldest little man is 5 now and really excited about his first ‘Trick or Treat’ experience this year. As the special night grows closer he changes his mind more and more often about which costume he wants to wear but the one thing he is sure about is that he is going to get so many lollies!!
Of course we can’t deny them these treats however it does present a great opportunity to get them in the kitchen and get them creating some spooky but sugar free Halloween treats!
3 Sugar Free Halloween Treats
Recipe from I Quit Sugar Kids Cookbook
- 1 red or green apple, cut into thin wedges
- 1-2 tablespoons of nut butter
- 2 teaspoon slivered almonds
- Spread nut butter over an apple slice and stick on another slice at a “jaw-like” angle.
- Spike some almond slithers into both slices to form teeth.
- Make two or three and serve as a snack.
Note: You can use any nut butter that is available such as peanut, almond or cashew.
I also use pistachios and dried goji berries for teeth!
Spooky Halloween Chocolate Mousse
Recipe from I Quit Sugar
- 400 ml coconut cream can
- 1/4 cup chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon rice malt syrup
- 1/3 cup raw cacao powder
- 2 pieces 95% dark chocolate
- 1 teaspoon kale, finely chopped
- Place all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Whisk ingredients together until well combined and smooth. Pour into 4-6 serving glasses. Chill in the fridge for at least 3 hours, or until firm.
- Remove and finely grate dark chocolate on top of the mouse. Sprinkle kale evenly across the serves and place a wide paddle-pop stick with R.I.P written on it for extra spooky effect.

Sweet Potato Truffle Balls
Recipe from I Quit Sugar Cookbook
- 1 cup Sweet Potato Purée.
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil, softened.
- 2 tablespoons coconut milk (or cream).
- 1 tablespoon coconut flour.
- 1 teaspoon granulated stevia, or 1-2 teaspoons rice malt syrup.
- pinch salt.
- handful shredded coconut, toasted if you like.
- Combine all the ingredients except the shredded coconut, stirring well.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Scoop out teaspoonfuls and roll into balls, then roll in coconut.
- Store in the fridge for a week.
Note: I skipped Number 3 and instead put some of the mixture into moulds, froze for an hour and then very carefully popped them straight onto the plate.
