Mini Meadows Farm Review

A couple of weeks ago, Mum and I took the boys to Mini Meadows Farm in Welford. It was our first time visiting but I have been meaning to go for ages.

Upon arriving at the farm we easily found a spot to park and had just a short walk to the main entrance. We bought our tickets (£5per person, under 2’s free) and a bucket of feed which contained different foods for the different animals.

We headed straight out and into another barn where the animals were. The first animals we came to were rabbits and guinea pigs. Some were in smaller cages while others were in larger ones that meant you could step inside and actually pet and feed them. The boys loved this and the rabbits and guinea were totally comfortable with them being there so weren’t hiding away. The animals didn’t seem that interested in the carrots the boys were offering but I think this was due to the fact it was later in the day and so they had already filled up on food.

From here, we carried on round and came to a bull, a pig and some chickens, turkeys and chipmunks. These were all kept in their own pens but you were still able to stroke and feed the curious bull and the pigs with their piglets. The chipmunks were really active so great fun to watch.

This bought us to the end of the first barn so we stepped outside and came to some more pigs, Llamas and Alpacas. As we came closer we heard shrieks of laughter as the cheeky Llamas were stealing the paper cups containing the food straight out of some children’s hands. We hung around here for a little while as the boys loved watching them get up to mischief while dancing around as if they knew they were up to no good!

After this, we headed back down to the next couple of barns, the first of which contained an indoor sandpit. I managed to steer the boys pass this without them noticing. After living near the beach for 14 years I am sick of sand and didn’t want the car full of it!

The next barn housed a couple more Llamas, donkeys and ponies which the boys were again able to pat and feed.

Once you leave this barn you step straight out in front of the outdoor play area. The day we went was a little wet so it was really muddy with some giant puddles, luckily we were prepared with our wellies otherwise I don’t think the boys could have played. There was also an old tractor parked up that they loved climbing on.

The outdoor play area looks out over the fields which are beautiful, especially with the glistening duck pond. The week we went was just before Halloween so we also picked a pumpkin and took it back to the main barn to carve.

Also included in here was a large indoor play area and the cafe. Once they saw the giant wooden play area, the boys were desperate to get in for a play so Mum and I had some lunch while they did that. The food looked pretty good, there were jacket potatoes and toasties with various delicious fillings to choose from, kids snack boxes, sausage rolls and bacon sandwiches. By the time we got to eat they had run out of jacket potatoes which was disappointing but the toastie I had with bacon, brie and cranberry was delicious.

The boys could have played for hours in “The Treetops” play area. It is a massive wooden structure, set under coloured lights and featuring climbing walls, rope bridges, huge slides, tunnels and a separate area for toddlers. There is also seating in there so you can keep an eye on them while enjoying lunch or a cup of coffee.

conclusion of Mini Meadows Farm…

It was school holidays when we visited Mini Meadows Farm so I expected it to be busy. We didn’t arrive until around midday but I was pleasantly surprised by the number of people. There was no crowding around the animals and I could easily manoeuvre the pram around with plenty of space. The play areas were a little busier and the cafe looked full when we arrived but by the time we sat down, there was plenty of space.

As I mentioned, it was really muddy when we visited so I definitely recommend taking wellies. Overall, it was a nice farm to visit. It was smaller than I expected but great for a shorter day out or for younger children. I also want to mention that outside there are a few fields and you can walk down the path between them. What we didn’t realise was that there are some more animals you can see down there. It wasn’t until I was looking at the map after we got home that I realised this. You can see the map here.
