5 Non Toxic Shampoos You Can Easily Make Yourself

If you have ever thought about the many unnecessary harmful ingredients in your shampoo (think skin and eye irritants, asthma and cancer causing chemicals), it has probably crossed your mind to have a go at making one yourself.

Homemade non toxic shampoo (or no-poo as it is often called) is easy to make, affordable and your hair will love you for it.

Not only are there the toxins in your shampoo to think about but did you know most shampoos will also strip your hair of it’s natural oils? This causes a destructive cycle of too frequent hair washing as your body will then work hard to replace these oils. Ultimately, this means your hair gets greasy faster, therefore you wash it more frequently

So, not only is making your own more gentler for your hair but you should find that over time you can go longer between washes.  Win Win!

Here are my top 5 recipes for non toxic Shampoo:

One5 Non toxic shampoo recipes you can easily make yourself with just a few ingredients from your kitchen.

1 cup Castille Soap

2 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar

1 tbsp Tea Tree Oil

1/4 Cup of Water

Your favourite Essential Oil.

Mix together the castille soap, vinegar, tea tree oil and water then add a few drops of your favourite essential oil. Pour into a spray bottle.

1 tbsp Baking Soda

1 cup of water.

Simply mix the two ingredients together and pour into a spray bottle. To use just give the bottle a good shake, squirt onto scalp and massage in for a minute or two.

Three5 Non toxic shampoo recipes you can easily make yourself with just a few ingredients from your kitchen.

1 Lemon

1 Cucumber

Peel the two and then whiz up in a food processor and use the runny paste as a normal shampoo. I love this one however it’s only downside is that the lemon bits can be hard to rinse off.

Ok, so this one isn’t exactly a shampoo but its great for those days when you don’t have time to wash your hair but need something to get rid of the shine that’s appearing on your roots. Simply dab the powder onto the oily areas, leave a few seconds then brush out!

Five 5 Non toxic shampoo recipes you can easily make yourself with just a few ingredients from your kitchen.

1 can of coconut milk

1 3/4 cups pure aloe vera gel

Essential Oil of your choice

Ice Cube Trays

Using a wire whisk mix the coconut milk and aloe vera gel in a bowl. Once fully combined add a few drops of your favourite oil. Pour mix into the ice cube trays and freeze.

Take a cube out the night before you want to wash your hair to give it time to melt then use as normal.

To complement your non toxic shampoo here is a great Conditioner to finish your hair off beautifully:

1 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar

1 Cup of Water

Mix the two ingredients together and pour into a spray bottle. Before use, give the bottle a good shake then spray onto hair. Leave for a minute or two then rinse and don’t worry your hair won’t smell like vinegar!

Right now I’m trying a castor oil treatment to cut back on hair loss and my hair reacted pretty well to it. It looks thicker and each morning I see less and less hair on my pillow. The idea of using a non-toxic shampoo on top of this makes even more sense now but my hair is super curly so I don’t know how it will look after using a homemade shampoo. The apple cider vinegar seems pretty harmless, how does your hair feel after using it?

Glad your finding something that is working well for you. After using the Apple Cider Vinegar you should fine that your hair is nice and soft with an extra shine to it! x

This is awesome! I’ve been cutting down to washing 3 days a week. But I’ll give this a go! Thanks!
